Village-Wide Yard Sale
Grandma DJ was in town this weekend, so we took her to our village-wide yard sale on Saturday. My Sweets and I never yard sale, but this annual community event is a prime opportunity to teach the wee ones about affording, choosing, spending.
We gave Buby and Bleu their wallets after breakfast, and they could not wait to get out. They walked and walked, and at the end of the day spent just $11 between them. Bleu chose a small Madame Alexander doll, a fairy puzzle, a tie-dye shirt, a seersucker dress she'll have to wait two years to wear, a Hess truck and one book. Buby chose the same Hess truck, a similar tie-dye shirt, 11 books, a construction vehicle, a random superhero figurine, and a stuffed Hulk {which I washed this evening}.
It's difficult for me to watch all of this stuff come into the house, since I'm of the we-already-have-too-much mindset. But one look at their happy faces... and good lessons were learned.
