Sprinkle Sprinkle Little Star

Buby hit two watery milestones this week. He ran through his very first sprinkler. This was fun and refreshing. I have good memories of playing in sprinklers as a child, so to witness my baby's excitable smile and flabbergasted giggle with every unexpected squirt of water in the face... it just made my heart smile. We didn't have a pool growing up, so my brother Mark and I would shamelessly befriend any neighbor with a water amusement. I know, it's awful. Remember Slip 'n Slide? We tolerated the annoying boy who lived behind my Grandma Daily so we could use his. It was worth it! Then the Glover kids because they had a huge above-ground pool and seemed desperate for playmates. One or both would knock on our door and ask us to come out and play. Mark and I were like... "Well, can we can go in your pool?" My B.F.F. Renee had the classic no-frills sprinkler that formed a slow-moving rake in the sky. I liked her FOR REAL, and we'd spend hours soaking wet in her front yard, always looking for rainbows. Buby has a pool, so no need to master the art of manipulating neighbors. At least not yet.

This Saturday was a HOT one in Buby Land, so I took out Buby's inflatable sprinkler from Granny DJ. I wondered if I had the stamina to inflate yet another ginormous outdoor play thing. I was overjoyed to discover this one simply attaches to a garden hose. Water instantly fills the sides and then bursts out a gazillion tiny holes 7 feet straight up in the air. It creates a fantastic sprinkler effect, and there's no stubbing of toes. You can jump in and out of the circle, or just stand next to it and cool off on a warm summer day.

Which brings us to the second milestone. 'Bathtub Buby' became 'Shower Buby' this morning. It was super cute! I went in first to adjust the water, make him feel comfortable, and remove all sharp and heavy objects. Then Buby went in the stall. I told him he had to wash up, so he put his hands out for soap and then scrubbed his belly and legs real good. Not bad for a first attempt. He was totally cool with water running over his face.
