Original Pebble Mosaics by Buby. Dated: 6.4.07. Origination: Lillian's House. Special Thanks: Erika. Value: Priceless
Buby and Lillian handcrafted these beautiful mosaic rock "cookies" (as I call them) on Monday afternoon. They used fresh-off-the-beach pebbles that Lillian collected on vacation last week. Thanks to mama friend Erika for providing the recipe (below), which she got out of Parenting Magazine's August 2006 issue. She says the kids had their most serious faces on the entire time, but it was obvious they enjoyed every minute. When the pebble supply began to dwindle, both kids were right there begging for "MORE, MORE, MORE!" What a fantastical crafts project. Mama and Daddy won't eat these yummy looking rocks, but we sure will treasure them forever. Thanks, Buby!
What you'll need:

- 1 tbs vegetable oil
What to do:
- Add a few drops of food coloring to the water
- Mix the water with the flour, salt, and oil
- Knead the dough until it's smooth
- Roll it out to about one-half-inch thickness
- Cut out circles with a wide-mouth glass
- Have your child press small stones into the clay
- Place the dough on a baking sheet at 250 degrees until hard
- You can also let it air dry for several days

Do the rocks really stay in place? Or will they fall out once the dough dries? Curious...might be fun to do with some shells this summer. Leave it to Erika to find such a cool project!
Amazingly, they do stay in place. You can tip it upside down and they won't fall out. I'm sure the kids could find a way to pick them out, so it's more for display than play. Erika used a few shells in ours, and it looks cool.
