Homegrown: Garden Variety

This week Buby's backyard garden has produced some beautiful white onions, pumpkins, tasty red tomatoes and several more cucumbers.

Garden Watchman

Saturday morning he runs outside in his jammies to watch the garden. No way will those pesky rabbits eat his strawberries two years in a row!

This Week's Bounty

* My Sweets walked out of our little backyard garden with 103 carrots in hand, plus two bowls full of tomatoes and peppers.


* He jarred his own pasta sauce. It's like nothing you've ever tasted.... hmmm.


* Our lovely neighbors moved away and instructed me to enjoy their cutting garden.


* Buby and Bleu walked an orchard and picked Red Delicious and Gala apples and Bosc pears. We've been slicing up the pears for dessert all week.


* Cupcakes from Crumbs Bake Shop. There were four, but I couldn't resist raspberry swirl.

Marigolds Gone Wild

Remember when we planted those itty bitty marigold plants in our veggie garden to act as a natural critter barrier? Well, look at 'em now!

Peppers + Yellow Beans

Buby picks yellow beans from his garden, runs them in to be washed, and then eats them raw. Yum.

Cherry Picking

I'm finally getting into our vacation photos from last week. Some things just cannot go without mention. For instance, Buby's first cherry picking experience. Grandpa J. has a small orchard on the farm with pears and two types of cherries. Buby was so into picking, inspecting, and "taste testing" the bounty. He checked every one for worms and waited for Daddy to get the pits out before eating. He'd make a great farmer.

A Rose

Our lovely roses came out to play on June 1. They hug our front porch, smell so sweet and bloom continuously early summer through fall. For months people stop by to ask what is the particular species. Not a clue. But we sure do love 'em.

Buby Land in Bloom

Our garden Friday night. I actually prefer this pre-flowering stage over any other. The leaf textures and 101 shades of green fascinate me. I walked around the yard with Bebe and my lens oohing and aahing at a few things in particular. I am no green thumb, but I sure do love how we have inherited a landscape that shows up every season to wow us.
