Welcome Back Picnic

Yesterday I walked the children to school at 8:15, per usual, and came right home with baby Bear to nurse, make coffee, eat breakfast, pack lunches, shower. At 10:30 we headed back to the school for a lovely Fall picnic.

The day before Bleu and her classmates had made mini apple pies from scratch and couldn't wait to surprise us. Buby's class all pitched in to prepare a scrumptious apple crisp recipe. As the picnic began the sun forced its way through the clouds, kids played, parents mingled, and leaves danced irreverently in the wind. It was a joyous couple of hours, and we all headed home for the day at 12:30.

I know early dismissals are a logistical pain for full-time working parents and those who drive a great distance to school, but for us... this year... it is such a treat! I loved having the rest of the afternoon at home with ALL of my littles.

Oh, and Bleu's class bravely offered to kick-start the picnic with three songs they've been singing in class. There are 20 preschoolers, and only 13 of them gathered on Friday morning, but they sounded terrific and even added sign language throughout one number.

Do you see Bleu in the purple top? She put on her signature "shy face" until all the singing was over. Too many spectators for her taste. I distinctly remember Buby donning a similar expression during every single performance his first year of school.
