Snowy Day

The kids don't get to watch any TV or movies Monday through Friday. It's a house rule. They don't get to sleep in, eat a leisurely breakfast or lay around in their jammies either.

So when 10 inches of snow falls overnight and school is closed on a Friday... that's the morning they want. Yesterday's storm was so big that My Sweets left for work and came right back home. Our village was covered in a fresh blanket of winter white. There were no cars in sight. It was beautiful. We spent time just staring out the windows.

At first Buby was bummed about no school---his teacher had promised to take him "sleigh riding" and his gear was all packed and ready. Plus, Friday is Pizza Day. That's huge. But he came around as soon as he heard the blender doing its magic.

My Sweets worked from home all day~ conducting half a dozen meetings over the phone ~ but he scheduled a lunch break so that Buby and I could take a "nature hike" through the snow. His idea. We put on our snowsuits and trekked up and down snowbanks all the way to the bakery for a fresh apple-raspberry pie to surprise Daddy. It smelled so good. We stopped at the pizza shop on our way home to pick up a specialty margarita. It smelled so good, too. Buby and I threw snowballs and made angels, danced down the middle of the street and caught snowflakes on our tongues.

We ate and played upstairs. An hour before darkness My Sweets offered to hold Ollie so that Buby and I could go sledding. We asked Bleu several times to join us, but she said "no thanks." She'd rather wave from a window, our summer girl. The neighbor's driveway is steep, so we just walked next door. After sledding I came inside to nurse the babes while Buby built many mini igloos by our kitchen door. I'm sure he would've slept outside if we let him. That boy LOVES SNOW.

After dinner we devoured dessert, read books and tucked the big kiddos into bed. Then My Sweets and I watched Anthony Bourdain in Iceland. I think Tom's dream job would be to host "No Reservations" on the Travel Channel, and he'd be damn good at it.

All in all, good snow day.

P.S. Photos from a week ago--on New Years--but same diff.
