Ornament Project 2010

This year's ornament project had to be simple. It had to be something my two and five year old could do with very little or no direction. It had to be interesting enough to repeat 15 or 20 times. It had to be unbreakable.

A few weeks ago I spied a bin of clear glass globes at Michael's. Immediately I thought of the gorgeous ornaments Buby made for our family and friends in '08 {the ones where he painted the inside}. That was my favorite holiday project thus far, but I knew glass wouldn't cut it for our Bleu Bird this year. She has a tendency to smash, drop and roll.

So... I kept looking and found very similar globes made of plastic. On sale for 67 cents. Score! Buby was at school, so Bleu helped choose the remaining materials: squeezable glitter glue in aqua and royal, felt snowflake stickers and thin silk ribbon to match. We were all over the store but got out just before Oliver's next feeding.

The ornaments sat on the kitchen table for probably a week, and Buby and Bleu did them in stages. They had the option to use flat foam paint brushes to apply the glitter or just rotate and squeeze for a more whimsical effect. Bleu peeled all the stickers, and Buby cut the ribbon to length. I think they turned out beautifully, don't you?
