We just spent 47 hours camping in our own home. We had no power, no light, no heat, no food at first. We do have a lil' gas fireplace downstairs, which isn't strong enough to heat a whole room when the rest of the abode is ice cold, but it totally saved us at night. We are so lucky for that {and also the gas stove}.
I fed the kids by very dim candlelight on the first night but bought a freestanding flashlight for night 2. The best purchase ever made. My Sweets set up Buby's two-man tent right in front of the fire so that the four of us could huddle in our sleeping bags until morning light came.
It wasn't easy being all pioneer style with two small ones, but it had its awesome moments. And we were better off than the thousands of people with well water who lost everything when their power went out--even the ability to wash hands in faucets and flush toilets. Can you imagine? And then to hear about the Chile earthquake. It's heartbreaking.

NO. FUN. I can't even imagine. At least you have that fireplace to keep things a bit warm. I'm thinking about investing in a generator. We don't typically lose power a lot b/c most wiring is underground here but I feel we're coming due for an ice storm soon. It's been a few years.
Two people on our street had a generator, and they were the envy of the neighborhood. I remember my parents bought one after the ice storm of '91. It was expensive and they never used it after that.
THANK GOD THAT'S OVER, WE WERE WORRIED ABOUT YOU GUYS!!! Glad you are all ok! Hugs!
looks like it was kind of fun .. it will make good memories for the kids .. love you forever
