Apples + Pumpkins, Oh My!

Miss Adrienne with Buby's class of 10.

Everyone was chanting, "Go Gavin! Go Gavin! Go!"

Buby and his guy tribe of John and Nico.

Not surprisingly very particular about his choices.

We're back from Florida. We were back yesterday, actually, but it's been a whirlwind of appointments and events and unpacking around here. I'm going to overload you with beach photos next. Seriously, we had the best time and can't wait to venture back.

Here are some shots I took while chaperoning Buby's school trip to the apple orchard and pumpkin patch last Wednesday. We basically went right from that location ~ an hour from home ~ to the airport. Talk about busy. The children were so sweet though, and I was glad for the opportunity to join.

We split into manageable groups and started out in the book barn with a nice {and patient} older gentleman who read us three titles, including Seuss' Ten Apples Up On Top! and Rosemary and Stephen Benet's wonderful tale of Johnny Appleseed.

During story time Buby raised his hand no less than five times to offer his unique take on the characters and plot development. Our story teller responded in kind to each observation. A year ago Buby would've been too shy to initiate this sort of discourse in front of a crowd, so for this I was immensely proud. I think Buby would do amazing things with a book club. Just saying.

After that the children tried on a whimsical Johnny Appleseed hat and proceeded to make their very own apple cider using Gala apples. I wish I could have poured into jugs what we only got to taste in little Dixie cups. Nothing fresher. Then we took a hayride down to the pumpkin patch and orchards to eat our bagged lunches and pick Macoun and Golden Delicious varieties. Buby was thrilled to see his friend Grace one last time before vacation.
