Working Man

Buby left here two hours ago with his Daddy and a backpack full of commuter goodness. He's been on a persistent "When can I go to work with you, Daddy?" kick lately. Last week he must have asked two dozen times. My Sweets, being the softy he is, agreed to take him in today. I guess it's a light day.

Oh you should have seen Buby last night. He was pleased as punch. So revved up for the morning, in fact, he had trouble falling asleep. We kept telling him he would have to rise with the sun to catch the train. I swear he thought it was Christmas in August. Or better.

One of the last things Buby whispered to me before he finally gave way to slumber was, "Mama, can I wear a suit tomorrow... just like Daddy wears a suit?" I assured him it was going to be a scorcher ~ near 100 degrees ~ so I wasn't even sure if Daddy was going to sport the usual. He thought about it for a moment and then wisely agreed to wear shorts and a Polo... as long as he could still have the tie. Always the negotiator that one.

Around 6 a.m. Buby woke up all by himself beaming from ear to ear. As if he was the keeper of the world's most guarded secret. He'd already opened his shades and grabbed his Baby Bear for the train.

We had a most enjoyable chat while My Sweets showered. I told Buby that Daddy's work world was a whine-free zone. He promised to listen and observe and have a fantastic time. And to report back. Personally, I think My Sweets is brave, but what an amazing opportunity for a little boy to go to work with the man he idolizes. He's gone once before, about a year ago, and has not stopped talking about it since.

And just like that, they were off. To the office. No fuss, no muss. It's casual Monday, apparently. And good thing My Sweets left his briefcase behind. Buby's pack weighed about 20 lbs.
