Today we purged Buby's huge double closet to take stock of his exact back-to-school needs, if any. His first day of 4-year-old preschool isn't until September 9, but this week I'll finish buying any clothes, shoes and supplies he needs. Because he's been wearing old shorts and tees all summer, I really had no idea what would fit for fall/winter.
Buby is in that tricky transition stage from toddler attire {4T and 5T} to big kid clothes {XS 4 and S 5}. The cuts and fits vary drastically by brand, and his closet is a hodgepodge. I wanted him to get into the spirit, so I brought my full-length mirror up from downstairs and let him model the clothes... for me and himself. FUN, for about 15 minutes.
In case you don't know, Buby is very particular about how things look and feel on him. He doesn't like tags {that's a biggie}. He doesn't like his sleeves to be too short or too long. He doesn't like jeans with certain buttons. He doesn't like when I pick out his outfits in the morning.
I learned last fall only to hang clothes I'm cool with him wearing. That way he can feel good about dressing himself on school mornings without any vetoes from me. I assure you, I don't leave enough time for fuss on school days. Surprisingly, many of his 4T pants and 5T shirts still fit from a year ago, though the big kids XS and S fit much better on top. He needs very little. Shoes. Socks. One more package of undies. Two new collared shirts, since his have all been laundered 10,001 times... and look it.
Oh, and I also learned not to send him to school in anything I love love love. Because, inevitably, he will come back to me covered in purple paint. Or grass stains. Every time. We will hit H&M and Burlington {we really like their little boy shirt selection} later this week and let you know how we made out.
