Never mind my tongue. I always stuck it out when My Sweets was behind the lens.
'Remember Y2K? We all thought the world was going to end when the clock struck 12. At least us New Yorkers did. Yet unlike most of our friends, My Sweets + I decided to brave the cold and the crowds that New Year's Eve and stay in town... just to see. We were joined by my little bro and Boston-based friends Nicole + Mike {holding hands above}.
Standing under the crystal ball counting in unison with hundreds of thousands of other hopefuls was some kind of awesome. Gazillions of balloons falling from the sky awesome. Confetti-covered streets awesome. Champagne in your face awesome. Embracing strangers {who you just elbowed for 16 hours} awesome. Happy to be alive awesome. I'm telling you. It was one for the books.
On the walk back to the subway we laughed hysterical... and vowed to never do it again. Friends and family would continue to visit each year, but Tom and I always did our own thing... a few blocks West of Times Square {ie. Scruffy Duffy's, Social, some Thai place}. That night in 1999/2000 could never be matched.
Where was I going with this? Oh yes. Nicole {above} and I were college roommates for one semester my sophomore year before I ran off to D.C. for a reporting fellowship and left her to hang with Crazy Ellen. After that I transferred out West. We stayed close over many moons, even though we would never again live in the same city. Well, she's coming to stay with us this weekend.. and bringing adorable two-and-a-half-year-old Nick with her. We. Are. So. Psyched. Most especially, Buby.
