All week Buby talked about soccer practice. He even played a competitive game in the yard with Mommy + Daddy after dinner last night. It was a rip-roaring good time! But when we showed up on the field today Buby was intimidated by all people. There must have been 20-30 kids there {plus siblings + parents}, and a lot of them already knew each other from the indoor league.
Tom encouraged Buby to just go. You could tell he wanted in on the action but wasn't sure how to break the ice. He observed closely and then tried to sweet talk me into holding his hand during warmup laps. I'd say it took him 3/4 of the class to get into his groove. And then it was time to leave. So I set up cones in the backyard and we continued playing for as long as he wanted while Bleu watched from her baby swing and My Sweets ran to the train station to retrieve an old grad school buddy in town to spend the day with us. {They hadn't seen each other in 9 years.}
We spent the whole day outside. Buby + I laughed our heads off and covered ourselves in grass stains. Next Saturday we'll show up early enough for Buby to introduce himself to his teammates. That will help break the ice.
