Two Fridays in a row I retrieved Buby from school and headed to his friend Gilly's house in the mountains. This time for an Easter party. I'm afraid he's going to be disappointed next Friday when it's just Bleu and I at home. Perhaps I'll spice things up with some irresistible baking project.
So Buby and Bleu both had a wonderful time playing with their besties. Three-year-old Grace gave me the most detailed account of her evening on Broadway. I learned more about The Wizard of Oz from her in 10 minutes than I have in 30 years of annual Fall broadcasts. Buby made tea--to order--for all his galpals and even fashioned a hula hoop. The kids played ball in the house and ate to their hearts content. Bleu was too busy steering a double jogger made for Natalie's baby doll to notice much of anything. She was in heaven.
Since it was too rainy to hunt for eggs in the field, Alana + Gillian prepared these cute to-go bags for each child. Buby's eggs were filled with either pretzel goldfish, mini m&ms or jelly beans. On the ride home he asked me to open each egg one by one to reveal its contents. That kept him awake and happy during what is usually cranky hour. Imagine my surprise when he proposed I could have all the m&ms if he could have the goldfish from his and Bleu's bags. Deal! The jelly beans, though, were up for discussion.
Last Easter he had 3 green jelly beans on our way home from an egg hunt. He was only 2, so that was a treat. He called them "green beans." Buby couldn't remember if he liked them or not, but he sure wanted to find out. He somehow figured out how to squeeze all the jelly beans from his bag into just two plastic eggs, purple and yellow. Every day for the last four he has asked~so politely~for a jelly bean. And every day for the last four he tells me a different color is his favorite. First white. Then orange. Now red. We keep them up high so Bleu doesn't find them. Plus, out of sight out of mind... for a while. I think we have 5 left, and Gilly will forever be the girl who gave him jelly beans. That's pretty sweet. Thanks for a great party, guys.
