Extraordinary details of an ordinary day...
01. I was up much of the night with Bleu, but she was sound asleep when Buby woke up at 7:20 a.m. So he crawled into bed with me, watched cartoons at my feet, and let me sleep another hour. I really needed that.
02. I showered before breakfast.
03. We didn't have to leave the house today if we didn't want to.
04. Buby + I made strawberry-banana-blueberry smoothies, ate cereal with chopsticks {his idea--he has made an art of it}, and read a stack of new library tomes at the table.
05. My mini me helped with the laundry. Bleu stood unassisted for longer than I've ever seen.
06. We raced up to the playroom and popped in a mixed tape My Sweets made last night. I know it's a CD of songs he chose for me on i-tunes, but I still call them mixed tapes.
07. We danced. And danced. And danced some more. Me + Buby. Me + Bleu. Me alone. Bleu with her Bleumobile. Buby with my bathrobe belt. We rocked out while playing baseball {you have to see it to believe it!} to Kanye West's Heartless and Love Lockdown. Song + dance sends happy waves to our brains, plus we get a great workout.
08. My wee ones took a bath together. I lathered them up in Johnson's Head to Toe and sat on the edge watching them play for a while. It was blissful. They are growing too fast.
09. Our big to-do was a trip to the village coffee shop at lunchtime for 2 bagels, a juice box, and an iced decaff. So much joy for less than $6. On the way home Buby said to me, "You're a cute Mommy, and I love you." A compliment from your son... nothing is better.
10. Bleu went down for her nap.
11. I helped build the world's largest train track. It stretches from one end of the playroom to the other, and I'm wondering how Grandma DJ will get in here tomorrow night.
12. Buby staged a pretend bday party with cupcakes and ice cream and imaginary hot cocoa. And whipped cream, because he knows me so well.
13. We huddled in darkness under a blanket, sang "Happy Birthday" to each other, and blew out two imaginary cupcake candles. Then Buby said, "Thank you Mommy for making us a tent. Now my wishes can all come true."
14. Buby caught four fish with a wooden stick and magnets while I folded + hung laundry next to him.
15. Bleu woke up and wanted to nurse in her big chair. Buby came and piled his favorite stuffed animals on our laps a mile high. He said, "Here you go Nola. I am sharing with you. I love you." And then he kissed her forehead and proceeded to tell me he wanted a baby brother next time. Not a sister.
16. We spent an hour or so chasing a very small, very bouncy ball around Bleu's tiny room. It was hilarious watching her speed-crawl back and forth. Buby was bouncing off the walls, too. I was yelling, "Boing! Boing!" Who knew a free toy from the dentist's box could make us so happy.
17. Buby helped me hang something on his bedroom wall. He used his plastic yellow hammer and actually got the nail in the wall himself.
18. We put clean star sheets on his big bed and read "Horton Hears a Who" by Dr. Seuss. If any of Seuss' books could make you a fan, it's this one. It is the most fun to read.
19. I captured a lot of mini moments on camera, extraordinary details of an ordinary Thursday that I hope I never forget.
20. We made a block tower, did puzzles and simply enjoyed each other's company to the soundtrack of the day. After dinner and our bedtime routine, I threw Buby some hugs from the door. He blew me strawberry kisses. Bleu played along and ate one. We all laughed and said good night.
