Licking Good, Buby

I'm not sure what Buby liked more this year, skipping around the neighborhood after dark in costume, holding Daddy's hand and cheering "trick-or-treat" about 18xs OR heading back to our porch after to hand out goodies to other kids. He was tickled periwinkle as Lumpy. He toted a finger-painted bag he made in our mommy & me preschool last year and had no problem trading it all for The Lollipop at 7:30pm.

Buby wasn't the least bit interested in checking out his loot. He doesn't eat candy, so it doesn't hold any appeal. Lollipops, on the other hand, are something he saw fly out of a pinata at Jack's birthday in August {which he still talks about}. He was intrigued to say the least. Buby's only ever had two dumdums that I know of, so this Whirly was all impressive to him. I did gooood. I knew he could never eat the whole thing, but it served its purpose. The four of us sat out on the porch steps for a bit, and just about every person who walked past shouted, "Woooow, look at that lollipop!!!" I'm sure it made Buby feel crazy cool. Neighbors who know us all too well asked, "Is it sugar-free and organic?" Nope.

Buby licked away until dinner at 8pm and then spent about 10 minutes brushing the rainbow off his tongue before bed. Saturday he forgot about The Lollipop altogether until early evening when his uncle asked how was Halloween. Thanks, Mike. I took it out from hiding and told Buby he could have a few licks before we go brush his teeth. Out of fun I started to chant "1..., 2...," with each lick and he promptly put up his hand and demanded "No counting, Mom!" He would not be rushed.

After a couple of minutes he handed it back to me, without prompting, and said "Tomorrow it will be rotten. Yeah." {We talk a lot about food going bad, not leaving stuff out, etc.} I just laughed and said, "Maybe, but wasn't it good when it was good?" To which Buby replied, "Mmmm mmm." He never asked for it Sunday, and it went out with the trash ~ along with all the other candy ~ that night. Minus a tiny box of Nerds and one full-length 3 Musketeers I snuck for myself. Seriously, who hands out full size on Halloween?

You threw out all that candy? I thought it would have ended up stashed away somewhere only you knew about. But I'd trade all that little stuff for such an impressive lollipop too!

Been there, done that. I had a stash of kitkats before Halloween and sort of got sick of chocolate. I know... ME! And I attempted a pack of Smarties this year (once my all-time favorite), and they just gave me an instant headache. My vice is more pastries these days... anything from the bakery.

I'm glad Buby had such fun on Halloween. That lollipop looked delicious. As for Bleu, you could always put her back in the costume and take a photo or 2 to document what she looked like on her 1st Halloween.

I agree with graga, it's good to have proof of what she was dressed as on her very first Halloween, I'm so like you though, if it's not on the day, it might as well not be done...but this is important, her very first!! I can't believe you threw all that candy away!!!

I can't believe YOU threw away all of that candy. I only keep the chocolate and toss the rest. Jon doesn't like any of it. G would eat it all if we let her, but we stuck to just a few packs of M + Ms. That lollipop looks amazing.
