Tidbits of Today

Buby + galpal Gilly throwing rocks in the river, 8.12.08.

hearing...

  • Buby call me "Mother" for the first time. Yeah, it was weird. I'd like to start fresh tomorrow as Mama, Mommy, or even Jenny again.

  • "I am your hero. Nola is your hero. We are both heroes." Buby knows how to get at your heart.

  • "Please leave. I do privacy now." Every time he wants to be alone in the bathroom.

  • "I am a painter!" Out of the blue.

  • "Thunder is like monsters in the sky."

  • "Turn off the blender. You are scaring Nola."

  • "You're a good girl, Mama." Gee, thanks Bub. You're not so bad yourself.

  • "Someday, Nola will be a big girl. And a good girl, too." That's the goal.

  • "Read it again." And again. And again. Buby loves repetition.

thinking...

  • Buby is not only protective of his baby sister, he is protective of her STUFF. He saw little Natalie checking out Bleu's car seat today {it was on the grass near our picnic blanket} and he demanded "Don't touch. That is Nola's car seat. Not yours!" And then he picked it up and walked away. Yikes... didn't see that coming.

  • The side effect of a ginormous double stroller = ginormous double stroller muscles.

  • I have kids old enough to have saver boxes. And Buby's is almost full.

  • Breakfast for dinner is severely underrated.

  • Some things are just "Yucky and scary" to a child. Regardless of what you say.

  • Buby can find Madagascar, China and the United States are on a globe.

  • Amy Krouse Rosenthal has a yummy writing style.

doing...

  • It's not his birthday. Or anyone else's who we know. But I let Buby have a cupcake. One smothered in chocolate frosting. And I doubt organic or low in sugar. That was HUGE for me.

  • Dancing around to Americana {folkish music} from Putumao.

  • Walking hand-in-hand with Buby while Bleu faces forward in the carrier.

  • Learning his first knock-knock jokes.

  • Throwing hugs across the room.

  • Bleu holding my hand while eating.

  • And giggling when I pretend to eat her toes.
