Letter Gifts

This necklace was a surprise gift to My Sweets on Father's Day. I had been searching for a unique piece of handcrafted jewelry to give him, either one that would hold Buby's picture or one that was the first letter of his name. Either way it had to be edgy, because My Sweets is not a traditional jewelry wearer. Or man, for that matter. This Personalized Letter Press Necklace, $62, from Uncommon Goods was just right. The vintage wood character block designed by Ward Wallau is recycled and mounted on sterling silver. It still shows some of the original ink stains from its old printing days. Cool! (The letter appears backwards because printing transfers the mirror image of an object.) This necklace is available in all 26 letters, numbers 1-9, the dollar sign, question mark, ampersand, and exclamation point. I am still looking for a leather chain to replace the metal one. And deciding what to engrave on the back. But he LOVES it.

Lucky for us, Uncommon Goods shipped the wrong necklace at first. This Personalized License Plate Charm Necklace, $40--in the letter G for Gavin--arrived on my doorstep instead. I fell in love but knew I had to confess the mix up, and get my guy his letter press necklace. The service rep was so sweet it was unreal. She told me the item I ordered was temporarily sold out but then checked the name on the one remaining package in the "outgoing" bin. It was ours. Phew! She offered to overnight it to me for next morning (which she did) and said that I could keep the license plate necklace with their apologies. What? Really? You mean it? Designed by artist Allison Strine, this beautiful charm is cut from an actual vintage state license plate and came encased with fabric in a glass and silver box. It was handmade in Georgia. They could sell these for A LOT more than they do. I LOVE this shop.
