Buby & Co. scooped up these vintage family magazines on a weekend antiquing jaunt. Scavenging through piles of musty old books and magazines is something we (okay, I) love to do when warm weather hits. Buby's dada is usually entertaining our little runner outside while I hurriedly survey the room for old furniture, fashion sketches, glassware, artwork, and magazines. And once in a while, I get lucky. These "Good Old Days" publications were $1 each and SO MUCH fun to read. We'll frame the covers. My copies (dated 1969 to 1971) celebrate "the happy days gone by" (early 1900s) through some entertaining black-and-white photos, illustrations, letters, poems, cartoons, and songs. One modern-day shoe ad from 1971 says "$2.00 a pair. Buy shoes on monthly payments." Classic. The bottom reads "In 1937, there were the smart shoes smart young ladies wore and truly smart they were - and sensible." Personal essays about children's games and one-room schoolhouses by regular folks who would be my great grandparents' age are heartwarming, and almost make me feel like I'm sitting on the front porch with them hearing it for myself. And give just a glimpse into what it must have been like to grow up in such a different time. Buby Land digs are dated 1867, so we'll share these stories with Buby as he gets older... and can imagine how the people who built our house lived here with all of their children.
