Like It Is

I like this book today for several reasons. First off, it's pouring here in Buby Land. And these purple, red, and yellow raindrops seem cheery alternatives to the ones pounding my roof. Secondly, "What Do You Like" by Michael Grejnice--though targeted for a slightly more mature audience of 3 yr olds--is about a boy and a girl listing their favorite things. Simple. So up my alley.

I'm pro list. I've been a "lister" since I was a toddler myself, using it to pass time in the car, put my dreams on paper (everything is more real on paper), and constantly ponder my feelings on major life-altering decisions--favorite colors and boy names, for instance. Wish I could say I was kidding.

My various 'books of lists' are sprinkled throughout Buby Land. It's been a good strategy for me and a simple practice I may impress upon Little Dude someday. Growing up, I was uber goal oriented for being the middle child-only girl in my blue collar fam. There was never any question what I'd do: Whatever I wanted to do. I put down my dreams and one by one realized them. Perhaps Graga's (Buby's grandma) "all I want for you is to be happy" mantra and Bompow's (Buby's grandpa) insane work ethic had something to do with my drive. But I've always kept my revised--and revised again--Top 10 Lists (places to go, people to meet, things to learn) for inspiration along the way. Listing your favorite things is not only fun, it makes you feel good because it's pro YOU.

Of course, I still create those fantastical lists of ideas. But being Buby's Mama and full-time Editor Girl has necessitated me to use lists of a less pleasant sort. My daily, weekly, and long-term lists include: Magazine To-Do, Home-Improvement To-Do, Financials, Housekeeping, Buby's Projects, Social Engagements, Vacations, and Photos. Just a few departments in Buby Land for which I am responsible. So thank God for paper and pencil.
