Twisters, Barns + the Great Wall
I keep a small bucket of Crayola modeling clay in the kitchen for the children to grab whenever. Bleu is always the first to reach for it, and Buby is quick to join her. Tonight while I was cooking dinner I overheard this.
Buby: I'm building the Great Wall of China.
Bleu: Oh yeah?
Buby: It is going to be SO big. It wasn't actually that great though... the wall in China.
{We start discussing the idea of countries being friendly neighbors.}
Buby: Now what about a Great Wall of... Britain? Is there one of those?
Bleu: I'm just gonna make a barn.
Buby: Ooh. Will you milk your own cows in that barn?
Bleu: Yes, of course.
Buby: Oh no! A twister is coming!
{He's acting it out. Quite dramatically.}
Buby: After school Ari and I were waiting in the wind, and we pretended a tornado was blowing us away. Great Wall of China here we come. I love Play-Doh.
Bleu: It's not Play-Doh. It's modeling clay! I need a bucket. A bucket for water for my cows.
Buby: But I am using all of my pieces.
Bleu: I need one more piece for my bucket. C'mon, Gavin! Pleeease.
Buby: Well, I'm building the Great Wall of China, and that's more important than some rusty old bucket.
{The negotiating continues for a few minutes until...}
Buby: Okay. Goodbye. Going to wash my hands.
{My boy loves art, but food wins every time. I could see him eyeing my croutons.}
