Cape May is such a charming seaside resort that I had to share some of my downtown shots here. {Keep in mind that I took these while briskly trailing a red wagon pulled by My Sweets or riding in a horse and buggy.}
Of course this was our first trip to the island, but it left a lasting impression and I think we'll return before long. There is just so much to see and do--sandy beaches, dolphins, a pedestrian mall, surrey bikes, carriage rides, ocean fishing, blue and purple hydrangeas, art and history, dramatic theater, electric pink sunsets, Victorian architecture, amazing food, salt water taffy, golf, fresh fudge, wild blueberry ice cream, yoga on the lawn, pig cookies, spa treatments, sky sports, etc.
Or even better: Just resting with family and friends. There's plenty to be said for the art of doing nothing. I crave early morning walks with a pastry in hand, burying my legs in the sand with Buby and Bleu, and strolling down serene and quiet streets on a full belly next to My Sweets. No boardwalk or Ferris wheels or Disney characters to be sure. Granted, we went a week before "season" begins on July 1, but I have an inkling this place is always peaceful even as the summer crowds rush in. It's sort of the anti Jersey Shore.
We stayed at the Madison Avenue Beach Club. It's walking distance to the beach and businesses, clean, and ultra convenient for a couple with two small children and a dog in tow. We took up their largest {newly remodeled} corner suite on the first floor, parked our car right out front, and ended most beach days with a dip in the heated swimming pool. The wee ones lived for the pool.
My Sweets and I had a private room while the children happily shared a pull-out in the common area. Our suite came with a fully stocked kitchen, a large bathroom, a washer and dryer, and two flat-screen TVs {not that we used them much}. And it was half the price of other places I checked out. Super affordable for a week at the beach. We'd stay there again. And so would Jazzy.
That said, I'd also love to check in to Congress Hall sometime {without the dog} or one of the hundreds of quaint bed + breakfasts we passed on our way to anywhere.
