Riding in Cars

My Bubs + I make it into the car almost every day between gym class, preschool + swimming, appointments, playdates, and grocery shopping. We talk the ENTIRE trip, and the back + forth is pretty priceless. I wish I could remember all of the random conversations our 2-year-old has ignited from the backseat. He's crazy precise with his words, so I understand every one without turning around. Today I started singing + dancing to his "LITTLE RED WAGON" song when he demanded, "NO SINGING MOM... JUST DRIVE! PLEASE." My feelings were a tad hurt, but it's not the first time I've been asked to refrain from singing. Then Buby continued to narrate our entire journey telling me every place we've been, when we were there, and with whom. It's scary... the memory of a toddler. We passed the gym and he waved, "HI GYM, SEE YOU NEXT WEEK." A minute later we drove by the exit that leads to the road that Target is on and he said "GO DOWN THERE, MOMMY." He reminded me that I let him have a smoothie last time we were there and that he cried when I poured some out to dilute it with water. Yes, a tantrum even I will not forget. Gander Mountain was on our left, and Buby told me a story about the fishing pole he and Daddy picked out there way before Christmas. Seriously. In a distant parking lot was a bagel shop. He told me how we were there yesterday with Gilly + baby Natalie and Gilly's Mama. He told me how they were trying to spread cream cheese with a plastic knife and how he saw puddles--lots of puddles--out the window. Another trait he didn't get from me... sense of direction. Buby has memorized the route to and fro places and lets me know when we're "ALMOST THERE." Today we drove past Lillian's house on route to preschool when Buby explained, "LILLIAN IS HOME NAPPING... SHE'S NOT AT SCHOOL TODAY." I told him she was at preschool. He said, "NO, LILLIAN IS HOME SICK. SHE'S NOT FEELING BETTER YET!" He repeated almost verbatim something I said weeks ago. Yikes... I can't remember what I ate for dinner last night or if I took my vitamin this morning. On Tuesdays Buby usually falls asleep in the car after swimming. I like to capture him in this 'sleep mode' as I pull in front of our house. The cheeks. The way he tucks his right leg under his left just before shutting his eyes. Makes my heart melt.

omg - Reagan sits in the same position in her car seat...sometimes leg on top, sometimes like that. Genetics? Buby can be my PDA anytime he's ready.

Glad to hear he has a sense of direction. My G has NEVER slept like that. Her legs dangle and her arms tuck in by her side, usually holding Baby Shush or some other lovey. I just wrote a post about driving around in the afternoons with her...haven't put it on my blog yet, but I will soon.

About 4 months ago I was watching some home videos, you happen to be in them and we were having a slumber party with the kareoke machine...needless to say, yep, leave the singing to the professionals ;) I could not stop laughing watching those videos, those were good times!

Yikes! I vaguely remember that slumber party from a few years ago. Maybe I'll dig up a photo from that night for the next Old Photo Friday. I remember having braided pigtails and posing with you, Martha and Tina like we were Charlie's Angels.
