Off to South Florida

Image of Ft. Lauderdale from here.

My Sweets has an early hair appointment with Danielle. Buby has a first field trip of the school year, to an apple-picking farm about 45 minutes away. I'm chaperoning. Bleu has gymnastics class with her Daddy. By late afternoon we'll all be together on an airplane to South Florida for a week. I may or may not post. Have a good one!!

Even Steven

Have you read Even Steven and Odd Todd by Kathryn Cristaldi? It's a Scholastic Hello Reader Math book, and we picked it up for 5 cents in a church book sale. This title is awesome and hilarious and so reminds us of our Buby and Bleu. Buby is Steven all the way. Perfectionist. Socks pulled up to his knees. Shirt buttoned up to his neck. Jacket and tie.

In the book Steven walks his sweet little neighborhood and goes from bakery to library to post office. He likes pancakes and clean dishes. He gardens and blows smoke out of his ears when people ruin his hard work. He puts onions and olives on pizza. He is neat and particular and competitive and likes to do things in even numbers. Buby equals Steven.

Meanwhile...

Bleu decided to snack on her foot. Gross.

I heard about this site on CJane. It's SO EASY. Here, I uploaded some unedited shots of Buby from last Wednesday at the park. In less than a minute I turned four not-so-great photos into vintagey polaroids that I LOVE. Go here.

September 26-27, 2009. Cape Cod with Allison, Jon + Grace.

Weekend Report

Starfish notecard from Petite Paperie.

Driving at midnight, two families, friends, slow mornings, strong breezes, blue skies, cedar shingles, the color gray, sweaters at the beach, horseshoe crabs, awesome outdoor shower {so my boys tell me}, starfish in windows, shells in sand, two lanes only, cozy king bed, Irish breakfast, rocking moose, three wee ones in jammies, seven braids, story time, coloring in restaurants, the gift of magazines, hair pretties, hot cocoa with big marshmallows {for the girls}, alphabet bingo on the floor, climbing into bed with no children and waking up next to two, several fishing MANdates for My Sweets, rain, clam chowder for Tom + Bleu, spicy chili and grilled cheese for me, picturesque docks, break-waters, movies, Irish breakfast, tasty Asian dinner, full conversations, good sharing + play, very deep sleep on night 2. What a treat!

To Allison, Jon and Grace... thank you, thank you, thank you.

Happy 17 Months

She eats food she has no business eating with just four teeth. She understands everything we say and follows directions to a T. Unless her answer is a firm "No." She likes to swim and dance and gets her brother's jokes. She insists on walking up all three flights at Buby's school. Like a big girl. She stands in showers, refuses high chairs, and brushes her teeth at the sink. She's growing up fast.

She climbs me like a monkey when she wants up and kicks me when she wants down. She is strong and smart and always brings a smile and a devilish laugh. She comes off as sweet and shy to strangers but loves passionately and fights and bites her brother when she's had enough. She screams and screeches and mumbles and grumbles. She wants to talk but isn't there yet. She had her first two-word combination the other day. It was "Good Girl."

Photo Gallery: Catch a Wish

He likes to chase these wispy feathery weed things outdoors and make wishes on them. I asked Buby what he wished for this time and he said, "One of those hot dog stands with real hot dogs."

I don't know the inspiration, since he's only had a couple of hot dogs his whole life. We buy Applegate Farms all natural turkey dogs, but I suspect My Sweets may have introduced him to what I call "street meat" in the city.

Grandpa's Lap

There's no better place.

P.S. Even though this shot is all foggy, I like it. I don't have many of these two together, since Bleu was terrified ~ I mean, really terrified ~ of older men with facial hair until just recently.

Early One Morning

9.19.09

They woke up not at home but in a familiar old farmhouse. They raced down to the dining room window to get their bearings and then b-lined it for the piano. Buby climbed onto the tall slippery seat, helped his sister do the same, and they began to play. It was a cool thing to watch and hear. Bleu seemed grateful to and for Buby, even leaning in for a 'thank you' kiss.

The day before My Sweets was feeling under the weather. He rested and at home, but after dinner we decided to take off. We drove five and a half hours and arrived at Grandpa J's farm shortly before midnight on Friday. Nothing like a weekend in nature to clear up your sinuses. Heehee.

So why go? Buby had an opportunity to ride Grandpa's 1953 Ford tractor IN a neighboring town's tractor parade on Saturday afternoon. It was sort of a country-gone-city boy's dream come true. We were all psyched. Luckily the day ushered in gorgeous fall weather... a morning breeze, afternoon sunshine. My mom met us at the festival, as did Aunt Pat, Uncle Pete, Jen, Bill and Little Billy.

This "hometown" trip was ridiculously short, but My Sweets and I both agreed "sooo worth it!" We were back on the road after Sunday breakfast at our favorite small-town diner. Tomorrow I'll post pics of Buby and Grandpa throwing candy in the parade. {I'm too tired for my usual late-night photo uploading.}
