Playdate in the Park

Buby & Co. loved our little playdate in the park. Buby missed his friends. I missed his friends' moms, too. Gilly + Natalie parked at our place and walked down. Buby rode his tricycle and Bebe was feelin' the Bjorn with a big brimmed hat. We met up with Grace about halfway and then popped into the village bakery for some sweet treats to go {Buby his unfrosted sugar cookie with rainbow sprinkles; Daddy his cherry turnover + oatmeal raison; Gilly her red velvet cupcake with deee-lish frosting}. And the coffee shop after that for something iced. Then, alas, the playground. The kids clearly had a splendid time. And Bebe made a new BFF in baby Nat. There is just 6 months between them.

Oh Sweet Friendship

Buby + galpal Gilly walking back from the park.
As images of these two friends downloaded from my Canon this morning I admit I felt a smidgen guilty for running ahead of them to get the shot. The handholding was soooo cute and unchoreographed. So in my defense, how cute I not capture it? {It's mini moments like that make me gush at how fast our kids are growing up.} But it also made me THAT mom. You know... the one who pops out of nowhere with a camera just when you think you're not so uncool after all. In front of your friends. In front of your girl. I see Buby's expression and it reminds me of my mom taking photos on my brother's first date with a girl named Jenny B. They were eating at a restaurant. Okay, he was closer to 12 and Buby is only 2.5. But I can already see that my mere presence cuts into his overall dudeness at times. Ahh, this is just the beginning.

First Caterpillar

Museum Village

Last weekend we took Buby to a museum village
in the country. The buildings were so old and cool. The grounds so green. We walked around for a bit before the circus and during intermission. Buby encountered several crawling caterpillars and a pair of goats. My photos...

First Camel Ride

Buby told me he wanted to ride the little brown pony,
but Daddy was already off buying a ticket to the camel. So he hesitantly walked up the metal steps to turn in his ticket when the operator swiftly snatched him up and sort of roughly threw him on the camel's back. Oh, I knew what was coming. There was a brief moment of reflection before Buby started balling. The fear on his face! Poor kid. I said, "Just get him down, quick!" Daddy was trying to, but when he reached forward from the stands the guy told him to jump on instead. I could hear laughter in the background. After all, this was a kiddie attraction. By turn two, Buby was grinning ear to ear and big Daddy was the one hanging on for dear life.

Silly Boots

Our after-dinner stroll around the hood last night.
Bebe in her stroller + Buby on his tricycle. Here, Grammy steers while Buby takes a break from the pedals. It was a LOOOONG walk, Buby would say. Felt great. So many things from the past 2 weeks I want to share.... just need to steal a few minutes to post.

Grammy DJ

She leaves in the morning. And she will be missed. Buby has enjoyed every second of her 2.5 day visit. They have a groovy relationship these two. Grandma reads books to Buby. Lots and lots and lots of books. As soon as she finishes one, he cuddles up closer and whispers "Again. Read it again, Grandma." He is not to be denied. She builds forts out of his noodles and lets him call the shots when they play Little People. She pretends to drink tea and eats felt food. She swings him in the yard and jumps in front of his 4-wheeler just before it hits the fence. She makes him fresh fruit smoothies and invites him to push the button. She lets him dress himself, even if it doesn't match. She sits in the sandbox and runs in circles. She chases his runny nose with a tissue. Throws the ball and catches it, too. She lets him think he's riding the tricycle all by himself even though she's helping to steer him across the road. She holds his hand all the way to the bakery and then skips stones in the river. She will work on the same puzzle for 2 hours if Buby so desires. Grammy DJ is patient and knows how to divert Buby from a meltdown before it ever happens. She knows Buby and all of his favorite things. So when she visits for a couple of days, My Sweets + I get a little extra rest. We sneak off on the motorcycle, enjoy a grownup lunch with friends, or head back upstairs for 2 more hours of sleep after they start playing in the early morning. Because we know they are having fun doing whatever. Today Grammy DJ got Buby to go potty, get dressed, and eat breakfast while I fed Bebe upstairs and the three of us snoozed a few minutes more.

Memorial Day

Fantastic. Our itty bitty village had its own parade which went right by our house at 11am. Neighbors all gathered out front to chat and await a marching band, firetrucks, police cars, Boy scouts. Buby was all runny with allergies, but his spirits were high. Gert next door made the day when she brought over a rocket popsicle--his very first! He kept showing it to me, like "Look what I got, MOM!" and yelling "THANK YOU" to her at the top of his lungs. Too cute. Blue fingernails all day. Then we left to pick up Grammy DJ at the train station. Buby was so psyched for her arrival! After lots of play, Buby napped and My Sweets + I left a sleeping Bebe with Grammy DJ and rode off on the motorcycle. We had 1 hour before her next feeding. Gorgeous ride {God--I LOVE where we live} topped off with a banana cream pie ice cream cone just for me! Back home, Buby had just waken up and Daddy surprised him with the finished swing set {which he had stayed up all night building}. We played some more and ate din din out on the patio, just the 5 of us.

One Month

Don't you just love little feet? Our baby girl turns one month today. What an incredible blessing. She's healthy. And changing by the minute. It has been the most emotionally fulfilling, totally exhausting month of my life. Seeing our little family grow like this is something I could never fully imagine or appreciate until it was our turn. We thought it would be just like life with Buby, plus 1. Not so. It's so much MORE. More appts. More diapers. More tears. More exhaustion. More delicate balancing act. WAY more love. More smiles. More sweet hugs + kisses. More of everything good in life. If that's possible.

I could stare at our Bleu all day long. Just like I do Buby. She amazes me to no end. This whole newborn thing amazes me. You'd think we'd be all "been there, done that" about it. But it's all fresh again. I realize now no two babes are alike. And the experience of pregnancy, birth and coming home was just as magical second time around, with an added layer of coolness getting to see it all through Buby's eyes. He loves his Nola Bleu.

My faves so far: Her big brown eyes and little button nose. Her long fingers and baby soft thighs. Her fuzzy hair and sweet smile. Her long-sleeve white onesies and teeny little hats. Her delicate lashes and pouty lips. The way she nurses. The way she sleeps. The way she rests on your chest and lifts her head up high to see your face. The way she places her hand under her cheek and crosses her feet. Happy Birthday baby girl.

Buby Land in Bloom

Our garden Friday night. I actually prefer this pre-flowering stage over any other. The leaf textures and 101 shades of green fascinate me. I walked around the yard with Bebe and my lens oohing and aahing at a few things in particular. I am no green thumb, but I sure do love how we have inherited a landscape that shows up every season to wow us.
